Living in Ocean Beach
What it’s really like to call Ocean Beach home.
Ocean Beach — OB — has worked hard to keep its independent spirit. Newport Avenue is lined with antique shops, taco spots, and locally owned cafés, and the Wednesday farmers market doubles as a weekly block party.
Homes are generally smaller and older than in neighboring Point Loma, and that's part of the appeal: a genuine beach-town lifestyle close to downtown and the airport. Well-kept cottages near the water rarely last long.
- The Ocean Beach Pier is one of the longest piers on the West Coast.
- Dog Beach was one of the first leash-free beaches in the country.
- Sunset Cliffs sits right at the southern edge of the neighborhood.
- Newport Avenue is known for antiques, local restaurants, and very few chains.
